Hope's Garden

Hope’s Garden is a public native-plant garden open to all to provide education, enlightenment and encouragement for the use of native plants in all spaces. Hope’s Garden is intended to demonstrate the critical role native plants play in preserving ecological balance and a healthy and sustainable environment.

HOPE’S GARDEN
37016 CHARLES TOWN PIKE
HILLSBORO, VA
Free & Open to the Public

This public-private endeavor, supported by the Town of Hillsboro, Hillsboro Preservation Foundation and Friends of Hope’s Garden, offers residents and visitors of Hillsboro and Loudoun County a peaceful respite and beautiful showcase for native plants and public art.

Hope’s Garden was inspired by Hope Bazaco, matriarch of the family that established Hillsboro’s Doukénie Winery—bold pioneers in the now thriving Loudoun wine industry and leaders in farmland preservation.

Hope’s Garden, located behind the 1760 Lawson-Goodrich House in the center of Historic Hillsboro, is a part of the Town’s commitment to a native plant streetscape and the restoration of the Town’s historic tree canopy.

Hope’s Garden is nestled behind one of Hillsboro’s earliest homes, the Lawson-Goodrich House. Following the acquisition and exterior restoration of the structure by the Town, creation of the public native plant Garden began in 2023 with the initial grading and design, and the planting of hundreds of flowers and keystone trees.

Hope’s Garden is made possible through the generous donations of community members, area businesses and through grants from the Town of Hillsboro and the Hillsboro Preservation Foundation—and from Friends like you.

  • Educational signage & tools
